Every Tuesday the pupils meet together in an assembly to discuss and debate issues relating to one of the core British Values: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect and Tolerance. This month our focus has been centred around Rule of Law. Each week a different class has organised an interactive activity to provoke discussion and develop ideas and understanding around the theme.
Activities have included:
- Playing games to find out about Government and Laws
- Debated ‘fairness’ and if all rules should be the same for each individual
- Deliberated over what life might be like without rules and laws
- Working in groups to decide what makes a ‘good and a bad’ rule and law by investigating different scenarios
We learnt that children need rules to play together and people need rules to work and live together peacefully and safely. We also agreed that rules and laws should be fair, clear, purposeful, possible to follow, and appropriate for individuals.
