The tradition of our Upper School musical performance is something that we treasure. Theatres had opened up this year but with reduced audience capacity, in true Wandsworth Prep spirit, we were determined that the show would still go on! Working with the fabulous Group 64 at Putney Arts Theatre, who directed four of our scenes, we were able to fit in some extra shows and we were all set!
Years 4, 5 and 6, supported by a Year 3 choir, wowed the audiences with 'Bugsy Malone'. The sheer joy of the night was the children's excitement when performing. It made us laugh, it made us cry and it gave us all an opportunity to clap and celebrate.
Performances are so much more than producing actors and singers (although we had some pretty exceptional performances). They are confidence builders, they prepare children for addressing an audience, they improve their organisational skills and it gives them a huge sense of achievement working as a company towards a shared goal. Working collaboratively with a local children's theatre group (Group 64) is part of our dedication to give our children opportunities within the local community.
Parents have commented that what we do so well at Wandsworth Prep, is bringing children out of their shells so that everyone can fulfil their potential and be seen and heard.
