Deputy Mayor Officially Opens Wandsworth Prep School

27th September 2012

To celebrate the completion of building work at Wandsworth Prep School and the school’s first intake of Reception children, an opening ceremony was held at the school on Tuesday 25th September. The Deputy Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Nicola Nardelli, cut the ribbon to pronounce the new building open as pupils, teachers, local residents, parents, local nursery heads and other members of the Wandsworth Prep School community celebrated the recent opening of the school. In a part of London where school places are particularly difficult to come by, Wandsworth Prep, part of the Bellevue Education, was set up to address this need. The school opened its doors to its first ever Reception class on Thursday 6th September and looks forward to being an active member of the local community. Melissa McBride, Head Teacher, said: “After months of hard work transforming the old Alvering Library into an active educational building once again, we’re thrilled to be officially open as Wandsworth Prep. And it’s certainly bustling! In the few short weeks of term, we’ve been having great fun introducing our new curriculum which - thanks to a programme known as ‘Forest Schools’ - brings learning to life through real experiences, mostly outdoors on Wandsworth Common. In addition we have formed partnerships with The Little Gym,Virgin Active, Ruggerbeez and Fruity Tunes to support our broad syllabus.” As part of the celebration, the children of Wandsworth Prep’s first Reception class released a mass of balloons in the playground as well as creating their own commemorative artwork, whilst visitors were invited to tour the school facilities - including IT room, Art block and Library.
