Exciting Developments in the Year 1 Curriculum

15th February 2013

It has been very busy at Wandsworth Prep over the past few weeks, with Open Mornings and interviews, as we look ahead to 2013 and beyond. Miss Bridget has been developing her creative thinking skills with the task of planning the curriculum for Year 1 and Year 3. In continuing with our forward thinking approach to teaching and learning, Year 1 is a skills-based, inquiry-led thematic curriculum, giving pupils ample opportunities to make links in their learning. Topics for Year 1 may include: Pirates! Children would work as a team of experts hired to create a museum of piracy, including portraits of pirates, historical information about them, artifacts such as doubloons and other coins made from clay, models of winches made in design and technology lessons and stories about pirates shared on an ICT platform for learning. Gardeners World Children would work as a team of experts setting up a garden centre for people who are going on holiday to look after their gardens and plants using information that they have researched during science and Forest School lessons. We have no doubt that this exciting curriculum will inspire, challenge and engage our children, and it is one that we very much look forward to teaching ourselves. Watch this space for an exciting announcement regarding the appointment of our new Year 1 class teacher.
