The Wandsworth Prep Poetry Café opened for its 3rd successful run on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th September to celebrate National Poetry Day.
The theme this year was ‘Freedom’ and all classes explored poems around this interesting theme. Children from all classes performed in the cool, dark, dimly lit café to the delight of their families in the audience.
With freedom as its theme, the café’s guests joined in with the poetry, reciting what ‘freedom’ was to them.
Our Poetry Café is a wonderful motivator for children to compose their own poems for a ‘real’ and not imagined audience. Knowing that the performance is special and valued in the café, creates an exciting creative writing learning opportunity.
We are already looking forward to next year’s event!
