Forest School Badges

Forest School Badges

Throughout this academic year we are introducing Forest School Badges in the Middle and Upper School. These badges are a mixture of challenge and skill based tasks which the children will work towards throughout their time in the Years 2 to 6. They are designed to stretch the children and will not be easy to achieve! Shelter building is not just about making dens, the children will have to demonstrate they can construct robust shelters out of natural and man-made materials, as well as making them watertight - an essential element for a good night’s sleep in the outdoors! Each badge will not be obligatory, as we want the children to direct their own learning by choosing the areas they are interested in. We will also be linking classroom learning to outdoor skills by tying the badges to school projects and values. We have already made a start on the tool badge, using simple tools to peel bendy sticks to create our own bow and arrows. Watch this space for more updates and awarding of badges.
