Wandsworth Prep School Celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 6th March 2014 by hosting our own Book Week at the school. Throughout the week, the children were entertained by special guest readers including parents, grandparents and Miss Melissa and all children took part in our first annual Read-A-Thon in aid of our school charity, Great Ormond Street Hospital. The week was capped off by an exciting Dress as Your Favourite Book Character Day, where staff and children got in the spirit of bringing books to life at Wandsworth Prep.
The children loved the opportunity to read both printed books chosen by themselves from the school library, as well as books from our reading schemes Oxford Reading Tree and Bug Club. In particular, the children in Reception and Year 1 have taken advantage of our school online subscription to Bug Club, where they can select eBooks of their choosing and read independently online or with guided audio support. The children are provided with a range of exciting books including fiction, non-fiction and comics as part of this scheme and work towards earning Bug Club points which can be redeemed for stickers and prizes.
For our current total, we are overwhelmed to announce that the children have already raised over £1300 for Great Ormond Street through their Read-A-Thon, with money still coming in. We look forward to announcing the full total at the end of term. Well done to everyone who has taken part.
