‘iPad for Learning’: Staff Development Supports Creative Learning

27th May 2014

At Wandsworth Prep, we are very proud of the fact that we are one of the first fully 1:1 iPad schools in our area. Both the children and the staff each have an iPad which is used throughout teaching and learning activities which are planned for our pupils, and this provides the opportunity for traditional teaching methods to be enriched, to inspire pupils and enable creativity in the classroom to be taken to a whole new level. As an important part of this process, we are also committed to making sure that our staff and teachers are provided with ample opportunity to take part in professional development to further their skills. Last week, staff from Wandsworth Prep took part in an Apple Professional Development Course entitled ‘iPad for Learning’. This course is designed for educators who are using iPads in a learning environment who want to enhance and transform learning in their classrooms. Throughout the twilight session, staff were given a chance to experience the various ways that apps can be used in teaching and learning, and explore how to develop learning activities that integrate the iPad as a tool for learning. Staff were given a chance to try out a number of exciting apps for education, including: All of our team found the session to be extremely useful and we are looking forward to introducing these apps to the children in the coming weeks. We also will shortly be putting together a ‘WPS Top Apps for Education’ list which will be published on our website. If you have any apps that you feel you would like to let others know about which have supported learning, please do let us know.
