As part of their project on Africa, pupils in Key Stage 1 decided to fundraise for a charity in Zambia called 'Brighter Futures Zambia' which helps support children and families in need.
In Zambia, primary education for children starts at the age of seven, however due to an ongoing shortage of school places, many children do not start school until they are eight or nine years old. There are currently two pre-school groups which meet within the communities that Brighter Futures Zambia supports who don't have a building to meet in (one group meet under a tree), permanent teachers or any other teaching resources. Brighter Futures Zambia have been given a plot of land on which to build a pre-school and the money raised by Wandsworth Prep will go towards the building costs.
The fundraising activities involved a mix of challenges with an African twist related to the children's learning. As a result the school raised an impressive £457.57!
