Launching in September 2013: LAMDA at Wandsworth Prep

17th January 2013

As a new school, Wandsworth Prep is in an exciting period of growth as we look forward to future years and continue to work towards planning our dynamic and creative curriculum which inspires pupils in order to foster a lifelong love of learning. In September 2013, we will be welcoming Mrs. Helen Costantini to the school as our LAMDA drama specialist. LAMDA is now the largest Examination board of speech and drama and has a reputation of excellence throughout the United Kingdom and the world. It is a renowned qualification for children between the ages of 6 and 18. From Year 1, pupils will take part in a timetabled LAMDA based drama lesson where they will engage in activities focused around developing the skills around acting, speaking of verse and prose, mime, reading for performance, spoken English and public speaking. Children will have the opportunity to take part in performance examinations, taken individually or with a partner and LAMDA also offers group examinations in speaking, acting and devised performance. As part of her role within the school, we will also be introducing a lunch break Drama club from September 2013 as part of our expanding extra-curricular offerings at the school. Helen joins our team from September 2013 as a specialist LAMDA teacher and owner of youth theatre company, Theatre on the River, based in Battersea.  After reading English at Greenwich, she embarked on various directors courses at RADA and completed a producer’s course at the Young Vic in 2007. She began coaching LAMDA in 2008 and set up her own theatre company in September 2012 which has put on performances at Peter Jones and the Chelsea Flower Show in 2013. Headteacher Melissa McBride, is delighted to be able to offer pupils LAMDA from September 2013. “The LAMDA programme at Wandsworth Prep will help to equip our pupils, whatever their age or aspirations, with a range of skills which will service them throughout life, as they progress from learners to leaders. Working with Mrs. Costantini will support our wider curriculum in helping children to unlock imagination and creative thinking, build self-confidence and self-esteem, develop communication skills, refine technical skills and artistry and promote team-work.” Read more about LAMDA at Wandsworth Prep here.
