Music exam success

Music exam success

In the Spring Term, three pupils in Key Stage 2 showcased their technique and performance skills in the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) piano exams. Amaya and Evie in Year 3, and Rosie in Year 4 recently received their exam certificates; all of them having been awarded merit in Grade 1 Piano.

In line with our emphasis on a broad, balanced and inclusive music curriculum, we have chosen the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music to assess our pupils' musical skills. The ABRSM believes in the importance of all-round musicianship which underpins the basis of their exams. To become an all-round musician, pupils need a range of interlocking skills – in performance, technique, notation, and listening and musical perception – as well as knowledge, understanding and creativity. ABRSM exams are music exams rather than instrumental or singing exams; essentially assessing the quality of the music-making, not how it is achieved.

We all look forward to an enjoyable, productive and musical term ahead!
