On your Marks, Get Set, Go! And our School Houses are Off!
27th September 2013
After an exciting democratic vote last year by our inaugural intake of children, staff and parents to choose the names of our school houses, September 2013 has seen the launch of our House Programme.
Wandsworth Prep has four mixed-age Houses, which foster a spirit of community amongst children and members of staff and promote a variety of activities aimed to bring children of different years together. Children and staff each belong to one of four houses: Ennis (Red); Murray (Light Blue); Wiggins (Navy Blue) and Ainslie (White), which when put together make up the colours of the British Flag. Children have the opportunity to learn, play, and socialise together in Houses, thus providing important leadership and mentoring opportunities for children and staff alike. Children use our ‘Bucket Filling’ initiative to earn positive behavioural ‘pom poms’ in their individual buckets. At the end of each week, these ‘pom poms’ are celebrated in our achievements assembly, and individual recognition foster collective responsibility as Houses compete for the new Wandsworth Prep House Cup award each week. The House with the most pom poms at the end of the term will enjoy a very special celebration with Miss Melissa.
Working together with our PTA, we are in the beginning stages of using The Houses to organise a wide variety of activities. These include charity fund-raising events, inter-House competitions and House festivals.
We look forward to announcing our first House Cup winner in our next newsletter.
