During the last two days of the Autumn Term, Kelly Norman and Jessica Wilson reached for their National Curriculum planning documents to begin to plan the Spring Term's project for children in Years 2 and 3. They decided to plan a project with a scientific focus. The children had expressed and interest in learning about space. What I was presented with, was a very detailed medium term plan, which tracked learning objectives that the children were expected to achieve throughout the term in Art and Design, Computing, History, Literacy, Geography and Science. There were mapped learning tasks to ensure that children of all abilities were encouraged to think and extend themselves beyond objectives wherever possible. This, however, is where I become lost for words.
Not having the language to adequately express myself, is rather unusual. This week, therefore, I have decided to use the views of one of our parents in Year 2 who sent an e-mail to the entire teaching team here at Wandsworth Prep, following the end of topic animation film, viewed by all parents and children in our pop-up cinema:
I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed this afternoon.
The build up to the viewing; the ticket purchase, buying the delightful snacks, having my bag checked by security and being shown to my seat. The whole experience was amazingly fun and well thought out. The film however blew me away! The quality of the animation, the script and design was awesome. I just wanted to say a big thank you and well done. It was clear how much effort you all and the children had put into it and the end result was absolutely wonderful.
I'm sure you're as proud of the children as we all are.
A version of the children's film will soon be available for viewing on the school's website.
