Pitch fever

Reception have worked hard in PE and finished the half term of with a fun game called “Colour Squares”. A quick thinking game of elimination where the children have five seconds to choose a colour square and make their way to that square before the time elapses. The children took it in turns to be the leader who calls out the colours. The aim of the game is to help improve their reactions, movements skills and ultimately their decision making under pressure.

This week in PE Year 1 created their own game using a selection of PE equipment such as cones, hoops, bean bags, spots and balls. The children were divided into small groups of around 4 children per group. Their task was to create a small game based on our theme this term (FUNdamental ABCs). Once they had created their game, the groups took it in turns to explain the rules and teach the rest of the class their game.

With horrendous weather early in the week our Year 2/3 football match against Finton House on Tuesday had to be cancelled. We are hoping to rearrange this fixture for the second half of term. This bad weather also meant that PE on Monday afternoon was restricted to the hall once more. This week the children played a game which they renamed as "Win, lose or draw". This team game is a battle of wits against your opposite number incorporating tactical thinking and spatial awareness in a one on one match, with a point on the line for your team. With the game so finely balanced it went down to the last pair and ultimately ended in a draw! Well played to both sets of players there were a couple of fascinating pairings.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful half term and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 3rd November.
