Before Polly Hazlewood, Deputy Headteacher, left the school to move to California she set up an award, 'The Hazlewood Award for Outstanding Attitude Towards Learning'.
The winner is a pupil who:
- understands that to learn something new takes lots of patience, practice and effort
- is always able to persevere when faced with a tricky challenge
- shows great resilience when things do not go the way they had planned
Teachers chose three candidates from each Key Stage:
- Alfie B from Early Years
- Luka VV from Key Stage 1
- Tony H from Key Stage 2
The overall winner of the award was Tony H from Year 4. In his acceptance speech, Tony told the school how he did not know any English when he arrived at the school and how now he understands so many more words and if he doesn't know a word, he just looks it up in a dictionary. His persistence demonstrates an outstanding attitude to learning. Well done, Tony!
