Rafe in Year 6 received some exciting news last week when he discovered he was one of the winners of the short story writing competition ‘Screen Your Story’.
Rafe’s story, up to 500 words in length and around the theme of ‘Homecoming’, tells the tale of ‘The Red Rocker’, a scrapped racing car that longs to return to his home on the racing track.
The team of judges, of whom Michael Morpurgo was one, chose Rafe’s story to be published in a fully illustrated collection 'Stories from the Young' and read by a professional actor at the Children's Literature Festival in Barnes.
Asked how he felt about his achievement, Rafe said: “I feel very happy with myself and feel like I’ve achieved something very big and I wasn’t expecting it. Since joining Wandsworth Prep, I feel like I’ve improved in my writing.”
