Spring Term welcomes two new sports subject to the curriculum; Gymnastics and Rounders.
For the Lower School, Gymnastics began with pupils learning a range of different shapes and jumps and combining them into a small routine. The Middle School were then taught the ‘How to’ skill of a forward roll and backwards roll and were challenged to transition these into shapes and jumps.
The Upper School have been working on complex moves such as backwards roll into straddle, round-offs, cartwheels and handstand into a forward roll and putting these into an individual routine. Next week, our attention turns to balance beams, followed by vault.
Batting has been the theme for Rounders for the past two weeks, as pupils continue to develop their hand-eye co-ordination. Getting set and playing on the front foot as well as introducing the on and off drive shots have dominated the lessons. Pupils have progressed into realistic match situations to develop their game craft.
Alongside Archery, we were delighted to introduced Gymnastics, Strength & Conditioning and Football for the Lower School as Extended School Sports Clubs for this term. It has been a great start to club life as all the children participating have applied themselves superbly, whilst enjoying being active and keeping fit - keep up the good work!
Lastly, due to popular demand, we will be re-introducing an after school Football Club to all pupils across the school in the Summer Term 2018. Moving forward, this will remain a permanent club for the duration of the academic year.
