Although this half of the Summer term is relatively short, this hasn't stopped the children at Wandsworth Prep participating in a variety of sporting activities to date with many more exciting highlights to come.
So far, the children have been enjoying playing cricket; the children have been learning to bat, bowl, throw, catch, run and jump. As with all team sports, the children are also building on key life skills such as, teamwork, communication, respect and inclusion.
The children have also been introduced to a special version of cricket called diamond cricket. The game has been designed to maximise involvement as well as focusing on each child’s personal abilities; ensuring that all children, have lots of fun and rotate in different positions as a batter, fielder and bowler.
The children have also been focusing on athletics this Summer term. The children have been trying out a variety of field events, such the throwing, javelin, shot put and discus; as well as jumping events such as, long jump, triple jump and high jump. The children have been practising the three phases of these jumps; the approach, take-off and landing.
All children have also been developing their running ability, competing in small distance running races, such as 50m and 100m sprint, practising their speed and acceleration. Taking part in longer distance races, such as 200m and 400m, has also helped the children with their speed endurance and aerobic energy system.
