Swimming is a valuable life skill which all children should have access to. Not only is swimming a fantastic form of exercise but regular exposure to swimming helps to develop children’s confidence both in and around water. We are delighted that our Reception and Year 1 children are able to have access to the outstanding facilities at Nuffield Health in Wandsworth for weekly swimming lessons this term.
Each Tuesday, the children in Reception and Year 1 participate in 30 minute swimming lessons. These lessons follow the Swim England’s ‘Learn to Swim’ programme and are taught by qualified instructors who have been specially trained to deliver the programme. The programme aims to develop confident swimmers through the use of carefully crafted activities. The Nuffield Health swimming teachers are clearly skilled and expertly adapt their sessions to suit the range of needs within their group.
By taking part in our weekly sessions we have really seen the children’s confidence in the water flourish and it has been a delight to see the children embracing their Wandsworth Prep values of ‘Be Fearless’ and ‘Be Positive’ to challenge themselves to learn new skills and develop as swimmers. Swimming lessons are a real highlight of the week for the children with one child reporting, “It’s so fantastic, I wish I could go every day!”
We hope that the children are able to share their newly learned skills with you over the summer break!
