This week Reception took the plunge and had their first swimming lesson of the term. The focus was on building general water confidence. Judging by the big smiles on their faces, all those from Reception thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are very much looking forward to next week’s trip to the pool. Out of the pool Reception have been learning to work as part of a small term in a relay type exercise. There was no competitive element as the focus was placed firmly on cooperation and successfully completing the set skill, i.e. running with two hands on a ball, placing a bean bag onto a cone, hopping, skipping etc.
Year 1 have also been experimenting with relay type exercises this week. The main focus was to explore different types of movement and to combine a number of coordination drills resulting in the children performing sequential movements using multiple body parts at the same time.
Years 2 and 3 finally beat the weather and managed to get out onto the common. This week we have turned our focus to rugby. This half term the children are learning how to change direction quickly in a controlled and balanced manner as well as working on their passing and receiving skills. The focus this week was to make sure our bodies are in line with the pass and that we are ready to receive a pass by making a target with our hands.
