Children in our Reception class have been learning about typical food in Spain and the wider Spanish speaking world. The topic culminated in a Spanish tapas lunch. Learning experiences leading to the tapas lunch have included children making Spanish tapas plates, shopping for food in our ‘Spanish shop ‘ and learning songs and rhymes to remember key vocabulary.
Our chef, Abdel, prepared a typical Spanish menu and the children were often heard using the phrase “¡ñam, ñam!” The tortilla (Spanish omelette), patatas bravas (potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce) and the churros con chocolate (Spanish doughnuts with chocolate) were particularly enjoyed by children and teachers alike!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have gained a deeper understanding of life in Spain, its traditions and culture. Many children asked if we might go to a real Spanish restaurant one day.
