Wandsworth Prep Raises £11,525.47 for Great Ormond Street Hospital

15th Jul 2014

Wandsworth Prep is delighted to announce that we have raised £11,525.47 for our chosen charity of the year, Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Children and families from the school have enjoyed organising a number of activities throughout the academic year. These include: a dress-up-day, cake sales, an annual Christmas Gift Fair, a raffle for X-Factor tickets, a World Book Day read-a-thon, participation in the RBS Race for the Kids at Battersea Park and, most recently, a Summer Fete (view photos). As a result, we were able to present a cheque to Judy Kuhl, a representative from GOSH, when she visited the children at Wandsworth Prep School during their assembly on Tuesday 8 July. During assembly, Judy thanked the children for all their hard work, explaining how the money they have raised will help to support children in hospital: “We rely on donations like yours to make sure we can provide the best possible care for the sick children and their families who come to us for help. Your efforts will go to make a real difference to someone’s life so thank you all for your fantastic hard work and support.” This fundraising total is particularly impressive, given that Wandsworth Prep School currently only has 30 pupils across two classes - Reception and Year 1. The school opened in 2012 with a Reception class only, and is growing each year. In September, numbers will double with the opening of a new Year 3 class - a full year ahead of schedule, in response to local interest. Bridget Saul, Acting-Headteacher, commented: “Not only are we very proud of the amount we’ve raised but we’ve been really impressed by the way the children and parents have risen to the challenge of fundraising. They have all been really enthusiastic and come up with ideas that have been great fun to roll out with a real sense of community.”
