Year 2 Visit Blue Cross

Year 2 are currently focussing their learning in Science in animals and habitats. To support and extend children's learning for their project, on Friday 26th February, the children visited the Blue Cross Animal Hospital in Victoria. It was a very engaging visit where children experienced at first hand how to apply their scientific knowledge to care for animals. Children dressed into a vet hat and mask and had to wear clogs in order to keep the operating theatres clean. Children met a guinea pig who was going to have some dental treatment and were also given the opportunity to look at the equipment that the vets use to make sure that the animals stay asleep when they are having an X-ray. Children were given a tour of the operating theatres and met some patients.  One child reported that the best part of the visit was that she learnt that the vets have to wash their hands for 9 minutes after handling an animal. The visit was an opportunity to extend children's knowledge beyond what they are learning in the classroom.
