Headteacher’s Blog: Halfway house

17th October 2014 | School Blog

Reaching October half-term is a significant milestone. What it signifies, in numerical terms is the completion of 1/6 of the academic year. In terms more  specific to Wandsworth Prep, October half-term signifies a well-earned rest for teachers and children alike, a culmination of an array of learning experiences, all approached with energy and enthusiasm. This morning, children in Years 1 to 3 took part in the termly house quiz. Questions ranged from Science to spellings and music to maths. What was quite remarkable, was the team work that I witnessed between children in all year groups and the eagerness with which they raced the clock to write the correct answer. I wonder quite how many children in Years 2 and 3  might be able to name the 5 properties of life with such ease and precision. Our Year 1 children are now five weeks away from publishing their books, might these be the first of many for some? Tap a child on the shoulder in Years 2 and 3, ask for advice on healthy eating, and, you may never need to refer to published material again. Not wanting to belittle the achievements of our children in Key Stages 1 and 2, however, may I please take this opportunity to congratulate all our children in Reception who, I believe, have settled in so very well to life at Wandsworth Prep.I look forward to moving in to the next 1/3 of the academic year after half term, or, more specifically, all that will unfold at Wandsworth Prep in the run up to Christmas.
