Headteacher Blog: Head start!

19th Sep 2014

As mentioned at the Curriculum Evening, September, as far as the school calendar is concerned, is such an exciting month. The renewed vigour, energy and enthusiasm, which is so demonstrable during the first couple of weeks of term, I believe, is a marketable product to be bottled and saved for more challenging times.Just moments ago, intrigued by children in white coats carrying funnels, measuring jugs and magnifying glasses, I visited a laboratory set up by Years 2 and 3. The answers which the children gave when asked what they were doing reflected a level of excitement that I imagine might have pervaded Alexander Fleming's laboratory subsequent to his discovery of the properties of penicillin in 1928.Amongst our children in Year 1 are some budding authors who are practising their autobiographical skills in the exciting journey towards publishing their own books.Children in Reception, who, at the end of this week, spent their first full days with us, all answered that they have every intention of returning on Monday.Of utmost importance, is happy children, and successfully harnessing children's desire to learn is pivotal to achieving this. Creating meaningful and purposeful learning experiences for all the children in our care is at the centre of our ethos. I am lucky enough to be in classrooms every day and witness, at first hand, the intangible fruition of this aim; all of which, however, would be a challenge to achieve without the creativity and professional approach of all our teachers.I genuinely cannot wait to see how the learning progresses.Miss Bridget
