Receiving your primary school offer can be an emotional moment—and for some families, it may not bring the news you were hoping for. If you didn’t receive your first choice school, it’s important to remember that you still have options, and many children go on to thrive in settings that weren’t their original plan.
Take a moment, then review your options
It’s completely natural to feel disappointed, but try to take some time to review your offer carefully. Accepting the place you have been given is usually the best first step, as it ensures your child has a school place secured for September.
Join the waiting lists
You will be placed on the waiting list for the schools in the list above the school that you were offered. These lists can move more than you might expect over the coming months, so it’s always worth keeping this option open.
Explore Other Schools
This can also be a valuable opportunity to look again at other schools in your area. Visiting in person often gives a very different perspective compared to what you might read online or hear from others. You may discover a school that feels like an even better fit for your child.
Every child is different, and the “right” school is one where they feel happy, supported, and able to thrive. A nurturing environment, strong teaching, and a sense of belonging are what truly make the difference in the early years.
At Wandsworth Prep, we understand how important this decision is for families. We currently have spaces available and would be delighted to welcome you for a personal tour to help you explore your options and see what we can offer your child.
Our school provides a warm, supportive environment alongside strong academic foundations, ensuring every child feels confident and ready to learn from day one.
