Extra Curricular Clubs

Assisted Homework Club provides children with the opportunity to receive support from a teacher with their homework. With the wide-ranging curriculum and often unfamiliar methods known to parents related to many aspects of learning, Homework Club allows pupils to complete their work in a quiet and productive environment with support from a teacher who can assist appropriately.

This club is also for pupils who might not have got into efficient habits with homework at home. Therefore, this club can assist pupils with how to approach their learning independently and take what they have learnt home with them.

When: Mondays, 4.00 – 5.00pm
Who: Years 2 to 6

At Wandsworth Prep, we offer Classical Ballet Club, run by a Royal Academy of Dance registered teacher throughout the year.

The achievement in dance contributes to developing a wide range of competencies and life skills, such as motor control, health and safety awareness, self-expression, physical fitness and stamina, discipline, mental ability and confidence.

Through the Classical Ballet program, children develop creativity, expression and musicality using various sounds and musical styles. Most importantly, dance is also about having fun.

When: Thursdays, 3.15 – 4.00 pm (Reception to Year 2)

Chess is not only great fun; it is also fantastic to help those little brains to grow in great ways. Chess helps develop all sorts of skills including: improved concentration and attention span, better memory, problem solving skills, increased creativity, foresight and strategy thinking, planning and even reading skills.

During our Chess Clubs, children learn how to solve chess puzzles, analyse chess positions, sharpen their strategies, tactics and endgames.

When: Tuesdays, Year 1 – 2: 3.15 – 4.00pm and Year 3 – 6: 4.00 – 5.00pm

Who: Years 1 to 6

The purpose of Craft Club is to provide pupils with a creative, comfortable atmosphere to learn and create crafts that can be worn, useful, and decorative. So far this term we have made wooden airplane models that tested the children’s skills to follow a step-by-step guide. We have also started a group project using recycled egg cartons which will be a great decorative prop for the school.

When: Wednesdays, 4.00 – 5.00pm

Who: Reception to Year 6

Each term, we follow a new story in the style of ‘active story-telling’. The children jump into the shoes of the characters and explore what happens in the story or sometimes what they imagine happening before or after the main events.

We use many drama workshop techniques such as freeze frames, hot-seating, choral speech, physical theatre and all forms of improvisation and role-play. The club isn’t about rehearsing for a play, but immersing ourselves in stories in a very creative way.

When: Tuesdays, 4.00 – 5.00pm

Who: Years 2 to 6

In DT club, the children work with a range of materials and tools to create a different project each term. These include a moving toy, a motorised vehicle and a marble maze.

Each term begins with a design session where a range of fresh ideas are explored and a final design choice is developed.

The building of the structural element of the project follows when woodwork and hot gluing skills are refined and perfected to create solid and secure constructions.

The final stage of every project is the creative finish, whether this is the theme of the moving toy, the body work of the vehicle or the decoration of the marble run, this is the stage that gives life to individual creativity, style and flair.

When: Mondays, 4.00 – 5.00pm

Who: Years 3 to 6

AM Sports Academy’s Football Club aims to improve participants technically by working on control, passing, movement, turning, shooting, attacking, defending and creating space. These are the key attributes which are worked on over a fun and exciting syllabus. The sessions are inclusive for all abilities and we have a real focus on participation and enjoyment.

Each session starts with a fun warm up before moving into skills work, which follows the AM Sports Academy syllabus to aid progression, and finishes with small sided matches to give children the opportunity to put their newly learned skills into match situations.

When: Thursdays, 08.00 – 08.30am

Who: Reception to Year 2

Gymnastics is a sport that requires great flexibility, balance and control. It also provides a unique and valuable social education and experience. It creates an environment where teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play and dedication are required in order to master the fundamental skills to be a successful gymnast.

AM Sports Academy gymnastics classes aim to develop balance, co-ordination, gross and fine motor skills, special awareness and body control. The gymnastic classes include areas such as tumbling, vault work, balance beam, and dance.

When: Wednesdays, 3.15 – 4.00pm

Who: Reception to Year 6

Lego Club is a fun and interactive session offering children the freedom to create and design as a team. They work cooperatively and collaboratively throughout the session developing their language and listening skills along the way. Children plan and make decisions about how to approach a task before hand and show high levels of energy and fascination throughout.

The club takes place in a relaxing yet stimulating environment and children are encouraged to express themselves and represent their own ideas through the use of design and play.

When: Mondays, 3.45 – 4.30pm

Who: Reception to Year 2

Archery is a fun sport, which requires concentration, skill and creativity. At AM Sports Academy’s Little Arrows Club, children learn the technique of shooting in a wide range of fun, well structured individual and team games. Safety, use of equipment and key Archery vocabulary will also be developed.

Little Arrows Archery also challenges children’s Mathematics skills as they need to add, subtract and manage numbers to work out scoring.

When: Wednesdays, 08.00 – 08.30am

Who: Reception to Year 6

Ninja Kids training aims to give children confidence, agility, coordination, balance, discipline, respect, self defence, courage and anti bullying skills. The training is ideal for helping children to subsequently reintegrate in to main stream sports.

The instructor has over 40 years experience in Martial Arts training and has trained directly under the Japanese Ninjutsu Grand Master, Masaaki Hatsumi since 1987 and holds the highest level of black belt in Ninjutsu. He also holds a Roger Gracie Black Black belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu as well as a Second Degree Black Belt in Traditional Jiu Jitsu.

When: Fridays, 4.00 – 5.00pm

This brand new club offers a fun and challenging take on Fitness. Strength and conditioning is the physical and physiological development of athletes for elite sport performance.

AM Sports Academy have created a syllabus which caters to all ages and abilities and aims to teach children the basic principles of functional fitness in a fun and safe environment. Children will be working on fitness aspects such as Agility, Balance, Coordination, Core strength, Speed, Power and Endurance. The sessions will also introduce children to warm up and cool down techniques that focus on flexibility and body awareness. We also aim to improve children’s knowledge on all aspects of health and wellbeing that relate to physical exercise, such as; hydration, nutrition, anatomy and energy systems.

We strive to ensure children have a positive experience of exercise and sport from a very young age. Children will aim to individually improve their fitness as well as achieving fitness goals together as a team.

Yoga Club is a relaxing way to focus on balance, concentration and core strength. The children love learning yoga through stories and even make up their own sequences!
