Our Ethos and Values
At Wandsworth Preparatory School, we are guided by the belief that a happy child is a learning child. Through a culture that nurtures our school values of curiosity, compassion, courage, collaboration and creativity, we strive to ensure that every child feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their full potential. We want our pupils to leave Wandsworth Prep as happy, confident and compassionate individuals, equipped with the knowledge, skills and character to become curious lifelong learners, ready to embrace challenges, think independently and contribute positively to an ever-changing world.
Our Values
Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They provide a shared language to help develop the character, attitudes and habits that will support children throughout their time with us and beyond.
Developed in partnership with our school community and informed by research from the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues, our values reflect the four pillars of character development: moral, civic, intellectual and performance.
Curiosity
Curiosity is the desire to know more and to understand the world around us. Children express curiosity by asking questions, seeking answers and exploring ideas beyond what they already know. At Wandsworth Prep School, we actively foster curiosity, as it plays a vital role in developing critical thinking skills, encouraging independence, and nurturing a lifelong love of learning.
Collaboration
Collaboration is working together which could be towards achieving a shared goal or through collaboration with a peer to support their learning journey. At Wandsworth Prep School, we value the importance of teamwork and provide opportunities for children to develop the skills needed to collaborate effectively. Children learn to work respectfully towards a shared goal by listening to others and sharing ideas.
Compassion
Compassion is showing care, concern and empathy towards others. At Wandsworth Prep School, we value the importance of understanding and care for those around us, including our wider community. We encourage our learners to recognise their own feelings as well as the feelings and experiences of others, ensuring that everyone, including ourselves, is treated with kindness and respect.
Courage
Courage is the ability to face challenges with confidence and determination. At Wandsworth Prep School, we value resilience and foster a positive growth mindset that encourages children to embrace new opportunities and ‘have a go’. Courage means stepping outside our comfort zones, asking for help when needed, listening to feedback, and viewing mistakes as valuable opportunities for learning and growth.
Creativity
Creativity is the ability to use imagination and original ideas to create something new. At Wandsworth Prep, we encourage our learners to explore ideas in different ways, think outside the box and develop the confidence to express themselves. Through creative learning, pupils build independence, perseverance and an understanding of how to adapt and refine their ideas as they grow.
