Starting Reception is an exciting milestone for children and parents alike. At Wandsworth Prep, we believe that a successful start to school begins long before the first day of term. That’s why we organise a range of transition events throughout the year for children joining our Reception class in September, as well as those moving up from our Pre-Prep Nursery.
These events provide a wonderful opportunity for children to become familiar with their new surroundings, meet future friends, and begin building the friendships that will support them throughout their school journey. They also give parents the chance to connect with one another and become part of our welcoming school community.
One of our favourite transition events took place in the spring, when families joined us for a morning of planting flowers, creating crafts, and enjoying outdoor play in the sunshine. It was a lovely opportunity for children to explore the school environment in a relaxed and enjoyable setting.
Another highlight was our popular Forest School session, which is always a firm favourite at Wandsworth Prep. During this event, children and their parents worked together in teams to build dens using tarpaulins, logs, sticks, and decorations. There was plenty of creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving as families designed and constructed cosy woodland shelters together.
Our transition programme is carefully designed to help children feel happy, secure, and excited about starting Reception. By providing opportunities to explore, play, and form relationships before September, we help ensure that the move into school is as smooth and positive as possible.
We look forward to welcoming all of our new Reception children and their families and are excited to see them continue their journey with us.
