World Book Day and our Author Visits!
World Book Day is such an exciting time in school and this year was no exception! As part of our Book Fortnight, we celebrate WBD to encourage children to read and develop a love for reading. Of course, reading is the foundation of all learning, so we really believe that WBD gives the children an opportunity to really become excited about picking up a book. The children’s character catwalk was amazing, with children dressing up as their favourite book characters, and the reading competition was a real treat, won by Leela in Year 1 and Libby in Year 4! It was so nice to see parents come to read to the children too.
As well as this, we had different authors come to visit the school. Guy Bass was hugely entertaining in Upper School, whilst Yeliz Yakki spoke about the books she has written and illustrated to Lower School. Lower School were even lucky enough to have a local author come read to them. Dylan is an 11 year old boy, who has written and published his own book for charity. The children loved his book and hopefully they were inspired to become authors too!
