Upper School’s infamous end of year production was ‘Matilda’. The story of ‘Matilda’ is just perfect for our school. Everything Miss Honey believes in mirrors our own ethos: teaching children ‘with kindness and patience and respect’ achieves the highest of results. The pupils of ‘Crunchem Hall’ and Wandsworth Prep exhibited their WPS values of collaboration, fearlessness, positivity, resilience, kindness and independence in abundance during this sophisticated and challenging show. On top of that, it was a resounding success with the audience on their feet clapping and cheering.
So why do we do these performances? Our pupils take part in weekly drama lessons to enhance their learning across the curriculum. Performances are not only about encouraging performers of the future, in fact, they are primarily about building children’s confidence, giving them the confidence to speak publicly, collaborate as a company and work together towards a common goal. We ensure that all our performances are inclusive giving shy pupils the opportunity to grow whilst still giving all children with performance talent the opportunity to challenge themselves. It was a joyful night!
A huge thank you to Group 64 who are our partners for these shows, creating innovative moments that give the show star quality. May the collaboration between our school and Group 64 at Putney Arts Theatre grow stronger every year.
We will leave the final words to a parent:
“To put on a performance of that calibre – where all the children get to shine – it was spectacular!”
