Last week our children took part in Young Voices for a second year.
21 pupils from years 3 to 6 travelled on the train to the O2 in Greenwich for a musical performance like no other. Getting together with over 8,700 other students from schools across the country, our children practised, danced in their seats and performed in front of the audience which included parents and carers. There was also a performance from Urban Strides, a street dance group.
The Young Voices experience is not simply a children’s choir concert, it is one of the largest choir concerts in the world. In preparation, our school receives the materials in advance as well as song details for the children to practice during their music lessons and at home. The songs selected by Young Voices are picked from a wide range of music styles to give the children the widest learning experience possible.
It’s such a fantastic experience for our children and it’s one of the musical highlights of the school year. One pupil said “the best past was when all the lights went dark and we had our torches”, another loved “singing all day”. Another takes part because “singing allows me to be myself and express myself however I want”.
Anna Clark, year 3 teacher who accompanied the pupils said “It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children. Performing at a venue like the O2 is such a unique experience and a fantastic opportunity for the children to come together with other schools to perform and have fun.”
