Year 1 stepped back in time this week to spend a day in the life of a Victorian school child. They dressed for the occasion, and the classroom was transformed into a school room from the 1800s, complete with a dunce cap, abacus, slates and two very strict teachers!
We had a visit from historical actor Mark Wallis who posed as a school inspector sent in by the government to decide whether the school could remain open based on the academic performance of the pupils.
We are happy to say that our reading, writing and arithmetic were up to scratch, and we passed the test! In celebration, we invited Year 2 to join us in learning a Victorian circle.
Ms Griffin wore a five-hoop crinoline to show how people dressed in the Victorian era and how it affected movement.
